From the car park run up Long Rd, through two gates until you reach the native bush. This is a steep climb straight off. Continue along through the native bush for about 1.3km, until you come across Wainamu Bush Trail on the right. This is a great fast trail which takes you down to Wainamu Stream, with a gradual steep climb out. When you hit the stream, you need to turn right and go down stream about 40m before going the trail on the other side. (DONT GO LEFT OR YOU WILL GET LOST).

After the stream you climb all the way up to Wainamu Bush Junction. This next section is the out and back (OTB) section along Kuataika Track. This has two big descents and climbs through to Anawhata Farm. It is 5km each way and prepare for some big leg burn. On the way back, instead going home via Wainamu Bush Tk, stay on the 4WD track (Smyth Ridge Tk) all the back up to the Smyth Junction with Long Rd. Once you reach the top of here you can turn left onto Long Rd and make you way back to the car park. Mostly down hill from here.

This trail includes the peak Kuataika.

Tough run with some big steep climbs. Great trail if you are training for the Hillary, Goat, C2C, Kepler, Routeburn etc.....
