Starting at the Barry Curtis Park Parkrun start line turn 180 degrees and start running around the paved pathway on eth outside of the park that takes you to Bellingham Road and the traffic lights.
Cross the road and turn right so that you are on the far pavement. Follow this pavement until you reach the bridge and follow the pathway that leads under the bridge and then on to a nice wide clay-based trail. Follow this trail keeping left all the way. You'll run through a split granite rock then across a wooden bridge. Depending on how much rain we have had this could be a raging torrent or a meandering creek.
After the bridge turn left on the cinder path and cross the storm water channel which has recently had plastic stepping stones installed. Follow a single track up a small rise and turn under the bridge. It can get very wet and muddy here during the winter months. Follow the track up a little rise until you see another stormwater lake and take the grass/cinder path to the right which spits you out on to Whenua Road for 50m before you can hang a steep right back into the Park.
Turn left and follow the trail along the left hand edge of BC Park past the sports fields. When you reach the paved pathway hang a right and follow this for 150m before veering towards the right so that when you turn left you are running in between the basketball court on your left and the toilet/changing block on your right. Keep following the perimeter paved path all the way to the far corner of the Park and then turn right on the cinder path taking you past the big gazebo shelter and to the left of another stormwater pond.
You can stop off and look for eels and waterfowl from the viewing platform. At the end of this path hand a left, cross a pseudo wooden bridge then just before you hit the perimeter paved path turn right down another flowing cinder path that runs parallel. As you come out through the flax bushes hang a left then immediate right and follow the main paved path towards the skatepark where you turn right on to a cinder path and follow left and then under Ormiston Bridge.
Follow the path back over the wooden bridge and head up the steep track to the left towards the carpark then hang a right along the gravel pathway. After about 300m take a left off the path and join a paved path that runs next to an open field area.
Take a left as you reach the gravel path and then follow the paved path down the hill to the corner of BC Park before coming up the gravel path between the grass mound. Turn left and keep following the pathway for 1/2 km and then turn left as directed by the Parkrun sign and join another gravel path that takes you up and in between the 2 storm water ponds.
Follow the pathway around to your starting point!
Barry Curtis Park is the biggest man-made park in Auckland. It consists of variety of different man-made features around a number of stormwater ponds. There are a mix of paved, metal and cinder paths which allows you to extend and change up the routes around the park. There are toilet blocks at 3 points along the run and water fountains are also available on the route. Lots of Tui when the Kowhai trees are in bloom and various water fowl abound.
Park in the Barry Curtis Car park on Stancombe Road or in the numerous parking bays available on Stancombe Road. If you want to get here by bus then there are a couple bus stops on Stancombe road too.
