Stuck for time, you want beautiful native bush, some accessible elevation with views across Auckland and over 200 stairs of climbing, then Point of View Staircase is for you.

Park along Gracechurch Road near to the Watercare East Tamaki Reservoir gated entrance. Start your run by going up the paved path to the right until you reach a junction in the path where you head left then head down a small dip with the concrete reservoir to your left.

Keep heading straight and the path opens out into a clearing with views over Auckland. Continue up the track to the Trig at Point View. You can take the track straight up for a really steep climb or the not quite as steep switchbacks to the left. Once you've reached the trig you have even better views across Auckland one side and views out across rolling hills the other. continue running towards the carpark and then drop down the stairs on the right before the carpark (Riroriro Track).

Now enjoy the well-groomed gravel trails and stairs sweeping through the bush alongside creeks. Hand a left on to Tui Track and you'll climb up a few flights of stairs into a grass clearing. Follow the trail down through a meadow and across a small bridge, up a rise to the top of some steep staircases. As you go down you need to understand that there's always an up! You cross a wooden bridge over the creek below then begin a climb up out the bush up 200+ stairs.

You'll eventually pop out near the reservoir. Continue along the paved trail as if heading back towards the trig but hang a left up some stairs and then run around the reservoir before heading down some stairs to the asphalt road that heads straight down to Gracechurch Drive.

Beautiful native bush and creek. Amazing views across East Auckland to the City and South across the hills.

On Street parking, you could always start at the top and park in the Point View reserve Carpark off Caldwells Road.
