The track is easy going at first, following along the creek. During summer weekends, the track can be very busy with walkers and families heading for a swim at the lake (run through the creek to avoid them if its especially busy, as you'll be getting your feet wet soon anyway). Eventually the track splits in two; keep left, crossing into the creek. From here, the track follows through the creek bed, skirting around the steep sided dune. The track will be obvious on your left after about 800m. This will take you to the lake edge, where some nice graded single track takes you into the bush to circumnavigate the lake. Halfway round you'll come across a Pouwhenua standing guard at Wainamu Falls. Carry on along more nice gravel single track, then you'll emerge out onto the huge sand dune. Climb straight up, over the top and then back down the other side to rejoin the track back to the carpark.
Sand dunes, Pouwhenua, waterfall
Parking is to the left as you come across one way bridge. Can be very busy during summer weekends, although there is normally more parking available down the Te Henga Walkway carpark across the road.

Great little run. Start is a bit sandy, but can be improved by running up the riverbed. Great views. Refreshing swim in the lake after the run is recommended.
