Head down to the waterside track and follow it, it's gravel mostly with some boardwalks and a bridge. After a while you get to a section of concrete path, at the end of that there is a short beach section and then back onto the gravel until at about 2km you come out onto the footpath (there was some work going on here and it may be that in time the coastal trail is extended).

Follow the footpath, continually veering left for about 700m, then veer left again and the trail takes you back to the water. There is a signboard here with a map of the next section of the trail. Head onto it... just past the start there is a gravel track to a gate on the left - head through the gate and around the wee pond before going back through the gate and onto the trail.

Follow the trail to the end, which is pretty obvious as there is a large carpark and a big sign. Then turn around and start back... however... early on the way back you will see a small foot trail off to the right - follow that and turn left when you get to the mown bit. Follow this track around the largest of the ponds and back onto the main trail.

Keep following the trail watching for the next mown track just after you cross a footbridge. Follow this, at one point the trail appears to head between the two arms of the pond. Don't be fooled, head right over the outlet of the pond - you may get we feet here depending how wet it is. Again the trail will join the main one and from here you retrace the track to the start.

Great views over Auckland Harbour to the bridge and Skytower. Awesome re-generating wetlands,

Just street parking, but generally plenty of space.

Moderate.

Stick to the main trail and when in doubt veer towards the sea.

Perfect throughout.

Windproof jacket, Whistle, First aid kit, Cellphone, Map

There is a toilet block before you enter the last section of track which may have water. Safest to take your own.

The grass track areas were a bit squelchy, but still runnable. Otherwise great running even on a winter's day.

Pretty safe.

Trail Reviews

Easy flat run with views back to Auckland city. A bit more pavement than expected, probably more like 15%
