Description
The course is well marked with coloured posts the whole way around. The beach section is a good leg burn before heading up a 200m grassy hill. from there it rolls up and down through each beach section. Time it right for low tide and you may actually be able to loop the entire island, but this course takes you along four of the main beaches, the pier, historical sights, gun turret ruins and the highest point on the island.

Features of interest
There's so many islands to look for, beaches to run down to and a number of dotterel down on the beach. So try to stay down near the water when running on the beach. There's a water tower and graveyard with some interesting stories to explore. The views back to the city are good if you have a telephoto lens.

Access
The run starts from the ridge on the narrowest point of the island. You should be able to see both coasts: south west looking to the city and north east looking to Waiheke. The ridge has a row of pines on it and a gravel 4x4 track. You're ready to go.
Getting to the start line here is a little bit of a challenge. You'll need a boat or, to catch the ferry from Downtown Auckland - details here

Staying Safe
Easy.
At most points a trail marker post is visible, or the mown grass track leads the way.
Generally good.
Seam-sealed waterproof jacket, Whistle, First aid kit, Extra food for emergencies, Cellphone, Map.
There is a drinking fountain and FLUSHING toilets on the island. You're good.
Bring togs or swimming gear to cool off afterwards.

Great selection of Yakitori. Coal fired BBQ skewers. The smell is wonderful, as is the rustic decor. I've been eating here for over 20 years. Omnivore? Try the chicken hearts - they're delicious! Pescetarian?: Wasabi Prawns Vegetarian? Deep fried Camembert. Vegan? BBQ corn, salad and mushroomsWidlfire
