Trail entrance on Old Porirua Road indicated by a large wooden sign and stairs ascending into the bush.

Nice single trail with several short sets of stairs, surrounded by native trees. Continue climbing to the highest point with its open grassy area with a small trig. Spectacular views over Wellington.

You can come back the way you came, or continue to the other trail entrance on Punjab Street down past the water tank. There are several options to extend the route. e.g. circular route in association with the Bridle Track (approx 5.5k), or link up through Ngaio to Mt Kaukau and the skyline.

Peaceful forest escape with great bird-life. Awesome views on a good day.

The closest toilet is outside the Ngaio Town Hall, corner of Collingwood Street and Ottawa Road.

Old Porirua Road is narrow, but has some wider areas where you can park safely. Ensure you do so at a safe place where it is wide enough and avoiding blind bends.

Easy.

There is a turn-off to Captain Daniel Edwards drive about half way up. Ignore this and stick to the main track.

Generally good.

Do you have a suggestion on where to go afterwards for the best coffee / cake / breakfast / brunch / beer?
