A recent bequest has led to the the development of a lovely new stretch of trail and plantings on the back side of Coronation Hill behind the Sign of the Kiwi. A great addition to the extensive Port Hills Network.

Access is from the Sign of the Kiwi. Pick up the trail immediately to the left of the kiwi that follows around the back side of the hill for a while. Excellent views across Whakaraupo Lyttelton harbour. After 5 minutes or so you'll hit a junction. Take the downhill which immediately drops you into the track junction marked with a lovely monument proclaiming the start of Anthony's Track. Wind your way down and around this new trail and enjoy the new plantings and great views. Eventually you will reach a driveway, where you will backtrack a brief moment and pick up the mid section of the Missing Link Trail

Follow the zigzag back uphill to the junction where you veer left and follow around the flank of the hill for another km or so until you join the summit road and Crater Rim Trail.

For the final stage do not take the Crater Rim, instead pick up the trail that runs around the top of the hill, with magnificent views and a great vantage point. this trail loops the hill where a short section of remaining Crater Rim Trail returns you to the Kiwi and the start point. Job done and time for a scone if the cafe is open.

Commanding views of the Harbour, plains and Southern Alps. Great restoration projects of varying ages as you head around.

There are loos at the Sign of the Kiwi.

Its its not busy you should get a carpark, but on busy days you'll need to go up the road a bit sometimes.
