This Urban / Urban Fringe loop trail starts at the Wither Road west end. Head north and pass under the Burleigh Bridge and carry on; kept close to the bank for trail or follow the concrete path for that urban experience. At 3kms you’ll see the pedestrian bridge over the river, take that, and then 100 metres on turn left over the small wooden footbridge and start heading upstream.

Back under the Burleigh Bridge, through the RSA olive grove and all the way to Meadowbank Bridge at 8.8kms. Under or over, your choice, then continue up the riverbank track on the ‘true right’.

Soon you’ll be at a pedestrian gate, turn right and aim for the dam spillway, and then scoot along the dam on the north (dry!) side. Back across the top of the dam, hard right and along the front of the dam on the short sealed section.

Follow the loop track around the back of the lake until you’re back at the dam. Run up to the road, then down the hill where there is a track of sorts at the road edge. After about 1.1kms turn left onto Meadowbank Road and just before the bridge, you’ll see a gate through the vineyard. Turn right through there and you’re on the home straight back to the start point.

The bird life at the Taylor Dam is worth slowing down for.

Very fine selection of craft beers, and good food. Good vibe.

Do you have another suggestion on where to go afterwards for the best coffee / cake / breakfast / brunch / beer?
