Just a lovely quick run with some relaxing scenery. This would be a great trail for speed work with virtually no vertical.

Head clockwise from the start and just follow the trail. After a while you will come to a gate and the trail turns to grass, keeping close to the lagoon. Just follow the lagoon and the signs and after a while you will reach the control gate building at the end of the lagoon. Look for the sign and head up onto the breakwater road.

Head about 30 metres down the road, past the stream on the left and you will see a driveway off to the left with short barrier posts along the treeline. You should also see a trail heading into the bush between two of the posts. Follow that trail staying left at any intersections - it is quite short and you will come back out opposite the Rowing Club.

Head over the road and take the footpath right next to the clubrooms on the left and down the back onto the gravel road. Head right about 30m and through the obvious gate on the left. Follow this trail to its end - a bird watching shelter - get some pics and then retrace you steps to the gravel road, turn right over the wee bridge and you will see the trail to your right. Follow this back to your car.

Lovely lagoon that was previously part of the river, re-generating native bush (with help from man). Plenty of birdlife - black swans, ducks, herons and of course pukekos.

If you know of any public toilets near the trail start or on the route, please login and then let us know so we can update this section.

Plenty of parking on the grass near the start.

Trail Reviews

Great flat track, comfortably run in road shoes.. There is a cycle trail out to the trail from Blenheim so an easy run out there from town. There is a toilet at the beginning of the trail and a portaloo halfway through. Don’t skip the bird lookout it’s a great spot.

Enjoyable short loop. Loved running next to the vineyard too.
