Starting at the parking / turning space at Rossville reservoir, follow the trails up through the bush. It takes a couple of bends back and forwards, but is generally fairly obvious (orange markers). The bush changes from native to commercial forest and at about 1km in there is a junction. All the routes end up on the same track, but the left branch is very clearly marked with white paint on the trees. Follow this until passing through a narrow gap to emerge on the Cedar farm track. Turn left and follow it to the reservoir, then downhill to the signposted junction.
At the junction turn left to head up hill to Mount Cutten. Some steeper terrain at the top with a slightly easier route signposted. After enjoying views from the summit come return via the same route to the signposted junction. This can be slippery in decent.
Follow the marked route to Mount Kettle. This section will benefit from some more traffic. It is rooty, muddy and over grown in sections, but the markers are reliable.
The decent is via a right turn at the summit. follow the rockier ridge and don't be tempted by the small track further left. This will take you back to the gravel road. There are a couple of places where trees have blown down and you'll need to look for the track.
At the gravel track either turn left to do an up and down again of Mihiwaka or turn right to return to Cedar Farm Reservoir. Retrace the route back to the car park from here.
This trail includes the peaks Mount Kettle and Mount Cutten.
