From the Bullring carpark head west and continue down Flagstaff-Whare Flat Rd. This is a 2.6km descent down a forestry road, nice and fast to warm the legs up. At the junction at the bottom head right up Rollinsons Rd and you are straight into a 5km easy ascent to Swampy Summit. Take your time there are great views and other trails to explore off this if you choose.

When you hit Swampy Summit you will follow the ridge along for about 1.5km, before bearing right and following the signs to Flagstaff. The track becomes more technical here. You will have a few ups and downs for 1.9km before you come to a track junction. Turn right at the sign that says Flagstaff Summit and head up hill rolling over the first hill before climbing to the summit. Great views from Flagstaff. Now it is an easy meander down to the car park.

Great accessible run from Dunedin. Great views over the city and down over the Tairei Plains.

Moderate.

Make navigation of this route super-easy by using the Capra app on your phone. View on Capra .

Pretty easy. The track is narrow and the tussocks can hide the track between Swampy and Flagstaff. Can easily come off it at night. Easy to find though. Also watch the fog in winter, it can come in fast.

Generally good.

Short-sleeved thermal top, Whistle, First aid kit, Extra food for emergencies, Cellphone, Map.

There are streams, but not sure on quality.

Can be muddy between Swampy and Flagstaff

Fog in winter, if it is going to be foggy use a watch with a bread crumb.
