While this is a point-to-point, you can complete the loop with an extra 2km of road.

Starting at the original Ōkareka Walkway, you have a nice flat 2km start with almost no elevation at all, keep an eye out though for some of the amazing birdlife... stilts, coots, Canada Geese, black swans, spoonbills and many many more.

After 2km the trail rises a bit and then down and over the new bridge into the start of the new trail.

This is about 3km of wonderful rolling bush running. Magic trail.

Eventually the trail will exit into the carpark at the Millar Road DOC Campground, head straight ahead into the main camp and watch for the obvious trail veering to the right.

Follow this all the way to Boyes Beach, where you cross a small bridge and just after that, veer off the formed track and head left across the grass and along the beach. Keep heading for the far end of the beach, and as you get close, you will see there is a trail - follow this to the end of the trail at the Steep Street carpark... or if you parked at the start, then carry on around the road.

Lots of amazing wildlife that's always changing.

Toilets about 2km in, then again at the DOC Campground and again at Boyes Beach.

Parking for about 10 - 12 vehicles.
