Easy intro to running in the Castle Hill area - not as hilly or as long as most other routes, very good quality track.
From the Hogsback carpark the track starts almost immediately on the right (don't follow the 4wd track). The first 2km are relatively steep climbing, then things ease off and you've got gently rolling (but trending overall upwards) terrain for 3km, at which point you start the climb up on to Hogsback itself. A short 1km section of rolling terrain along the top takes you to the start of the descent down to Texas Flat (if you're feeling uninspired for more climbing turn around before descending). At the Texas Flat car park turn around and re-trace your route back to the start.

Easy.

Generally good.

Windproof jacket, Personal Locator Beacon (PLB), Whistle, First aid kit, Extra food for emergencies, Cellphone

Couple of stream crossings, water looks ok but I haven't actually used it

Probably longest season of any track in the basin due to it staying lower. Ok in winter in snow as not that steep nor exposed, can be very muddy early spring/late autumn so best avoided then

Trail Reviews

Lovely start to the day as the sun rises over Castle Hill. V runnable- gonna say one of my favorite ever 2 hour runs.

Beautiful location for a run. Some single track, some wider open grassy tracks and a one extremely cold river crossing today! Was pretty muddy/slippy in parts but nothing too technical. Such a great track, will be back to run this one again.

Ran as part of the Valley Ultra 'Piglet' course. Great terrain and views on a clear day. Just awesome fun!

A lovely blend of bush, bird song and open views. Scored a day when there were only a couple of bikes on the trail. Would love to repeat with snow on the tops and blue skies.
