Experience the Hunua Hillbilly, a beautifully brutal trail journey through the Hunua Ranges’ stunning native bush. If you're not tackling the original 60km Ultramarathon (a course which demands some serious respect!), there's also the Trail Marathon and 22km course options which still deliver a fair share of challenge of their own, plus plenty of single trail bliss.

Designed to be more achievable by using the less technical tracks in the regional park, but still a very challenging 22km trail run or walk! From the start you will get your heart rate up pretty quickly by making your way up (sorry!) to the stunning Mangatawhiri Dam, before following the gravel road next to the lake for around 3km. You then head up a long climb on the road before entering the undulating challenge MTB track with stunning views of the ranges. You will then trade out clay under foot for lovely graveled tracks and the hills for stairs. Your next 8km or so will be completed on the very well maintained walking tracks of the Wairoa and Suspension bridge loop, before your final few kms heading back down via the road and Challenge downhill track.
The bulk of the route is single track under the cover of stunning native bush. There is a combination of gravel roads, MTB trail, swing bridges and even the odd Watercare dam mixed in for good measure. When you aren’t under the very welcome cover of the bush, you will enjoy some of the most stunning 360 views in Auckland!
