After parking at the carpark enter the farmland through the gates and cross easy open farmland until you reach the junction of the loops. There is a flushing toilet here for your convenience. Tackle the Exotic Loop first - marked with orange triangles. Recent rain and animal movement can make the first part of the loop very slushy. Undulating moderate hills in this area. Great views over the valley at different points.

Return to the junction to tackle the Matai Loop - marked with yellow trangles. This is native bush on narrow single track with undulating hills (some quite steep) before returning to the carpark on open farm track

Matai Loop The Matai loop is marked in yellow on the map at the carpark. It is quite steep to negotiate and requires a moderate level of agility. As the name indicates there are some very good old Matai trees to be seen on this track. There is a grove of Matais a short distance from the junction with the Totara loop that is easy to visit without tackling the steeper sections of the track. Exotic Loop the Exotic Loop is mostly farm tracks in open grassland and forestry tracks in recently planted trees. Some great views are to be seen from stages along the track

There is a small carpark at the entrance to Rewanui Forest Park

Trail Reviews

Got lost a few times on the Matai Loop, almost lost a shoe (and the dog) in the mud on the exotic loop, and the cattle were a wee bit chasey. So your average WT trail really.

Did this a few months ago. The Matai loop was lovely in places but the Exotic loop was a complete mudbath and impossible to run in.
