Description
Such a great long-run just out of town, that can an be done in either direction. Clockwise starts with about 8km of gravel road and a steeper switch-back climb. Anticlockwise starts with a much longer 16km climb and then you come down the switchbacks and finish on the gravel road.
Start at the Dun Mountain carpark next to Maitai Valley Motorcamp. The signs are very easy to follow, however, for a little bit of a twist, go up/down Te Ara Kopiko. If you're starting from the carpark and doing the longer climb (anti-clockwise), cross the vehicle bridge at the carpark as normal, turn left as normal, but then look out for the trail on your right, Te Ara Kopiko. It's a far more scenic and fun acsent to Tantragee Saddle rather than the original route which you'll find if you just carry on past Te Ara Kopiko and turn right over the fence into the Maitai Arboretum.
