This run can be mixed around to do the ups, down, the downs, up and just about everything in between to make these hilly city routes more fun!

Start at Tahuna Beach and run towards Nelson for a few hundred meters until you see the sign for Days Track. Here you start a cool staircase climb up to Princess Drive. Go straight over and down Toi Toi street, and take the first right onto Montreal Road. At the end of this, another trail begins over fields and a stunning city ridgeline towards Bobs Track.

Here you can choose to run down the zigzags to Emano St, taking a hard right at the bottom and climbing the steep track to Observatory Terrace, or, continue past the zigzags and come out at the top of Pipers Park/Bobs Track onto Princess Drive. Continue on Princess Drive, turning left onto Observatory Terrace and going down the steep track we just talked about. This time, at the bottom, take a hard left and ascend the zigzags up to Princess Drive.

From here weave your way downhill back to Tahunanui Drive and the beach, or take a detour left and test your metal on the Tamaki Steps.

Trail Reviews

Gpx now fixed on this nice little WT trail with a secret route up from Tahuna Beach. Very cute.

If your knees tremble at the thought of 3km of concrete stairs and footpath then this trail is not for you. As Jonathan mentioned the gpx is a bit wonky around Pipers park. The map shows it going along Princes Drive when there is a perfectly good trail just below and parallel with this that would make a much nicer option. I think I would have preferred to hike up the steep track than down tho I did enjoy running up the zig zag which thankfully had a bit of shade on a mid afternoon summer's day.

Route needs a bit of an update, the zig zag part near the end definately isn't correct, made several detours as I took incorrect turns, completely missed the turnoff for the zig zag climb as it starts a lot earlier than on the GPX download... Will see if I can get this corrected and uploaded to Mal
