Starting at Tuckers Beach carpark, follow the trail towards the river and cross Kimi-ākau Bridge. At the top of the zig zags after the bridge there is a junction - turn left at this junction.

At approximately 3km you will reach another junction (the Hugo Tunnel intersection). Take the left and head down towards Hugo Tunnel. Go through the tunnel and follow the trail until you hill Atley Road (Arthurs Point).

At Atley Road take a right and follow the Wharehuanui Trail past Gatleys Tavern (A good place to stop for toilet and drink). Continue on past Littles Road. Shortly after Littles Road, take the first track to the right down some zig zags and follow this trail (crossing back over Littles road) until you reach the Hugo Tunnel intersection which you were at earlier. Head left and return back to the carpark via Kimi-ākau Bridge.

Trail Reviews

How fun was that?! Stunning early autumn day, crisp in the shade, while baking in the fun. I had no expectations coming in, just wanted something easy physically and mentally after running the Milford two days prior. Lovely new graded trails, gorgeous forest and magnificent canyon views alongside the Shotover River. I did not know about Hugo's Tunnel, so that was an added bonus.
Possibly less vert than I was expecting, but that was a welcome relief on tired legs.
