This is part of the Alps 2 Ocean trail and is very easy to follow - plenty of black signs pointing in the right directions, a few maps along the way to show your location and a very well maintained hard packed almost footpath type of trail.

The Elephant rocks are a cool feature, Aslans campsite (movie scene), Island Cliff is an impressive sight and the Rakis railway tunnel. Plenty to see along the way

No public transport so you will need either dropped off or to get a ride back to your car when finished

Easy.

Follow the black A2O markers and the well worn trail

Perfect throughout.

Thermal leggings, Short-sleeved thermal top, Long-sleeved thermal top, Seam-sealed waterproof jacket, Gloves, Beanie/thermal headwear, Whistle, First aid kit, Extra food for emergencies, Cellphone, Map

There are two water points along the trail, also toilets. I wouldn't drink from any streams along the way due to being in dairy farming country

Quite muddy in spots after rain and when the frost melts

Scotts Brewery
Oamaru Harbour
Great pizzas and tap beer and cider

Short Black Cafe
Thames street
Excellent coffee and pancakes
