Description
From the carpark head to the tower, take the time to climb the ladders and get a nice view of the area. Once back down, head off to the clearly signposted Kahikitea Swamp Walk.... this is lovely trail with a wee loop at the end. Take in the towering Kahikiteas and some fascinating info boards.
Once you have completed the loop and are back at the tower, head straight across to the Dune Lake boardwalk on the beach side and follow the trail, turning left at the first intersection which will take you around to a viewpoint over the Dune Lake, then carry on around and at the next intersection you have a sign for beach left and track right and steps straight ahead. Head up the steps to another cool lookout point.
Once you've had a look and taken some pics, head back down the steps and take the turn to the beach. Turn right and follow the beach as far as you can to the mouth of Ship Creek, then follow the creek around and then back to the carpark.
