Start at the carpark at the end of Kauaeranga Road. Take the Pinnacles track. Climb the historic stone steps to the top.

There is a left fork to take before reaching Pinnacles hut through the stone cairns. This is the start of the Rangihau track. Descend into a valley down a steep technical track and climb up the other side.

You will then be on the old bulldozed powerline track. Follow this down to Rangihau road.

Follow the road down and look for a track on the left that leads to the old ford(it's at about 22k from start). Note that this won't be crossable if there has been heavy rain.

Cross and turn left and climb Tapu hill road to the summit. On the south side of the road at the summit is the Crosbies main range track.

Follow this south to Crosbies hut (bit of climbing). From Crosbies hut keep heading south to the next intersection and turn left.

Follow along this ridge to the next intersection(orange peel corner) descend down to Kauearanga road passing quite a nice Kauri tree. Once at the road turn left and enjoy the wee run back to the road end!

Historic trails, volcanic topography,

Toilets at start.

Nice gravel road with lots of parking.
