This is a working forest with public access allowed. Numerous mountain bike tracks which can be run in addition to what is on this route but do not run on the downhill tracks (these are marked) for safety reasons, as well as 4WD/gravel roads that can be used - also can be used as alternate route to get into the Tararua Ranges. Popular local track for dog walking, mountain biking and running. No vehicular access to the public. Average gradient is around 12% for the climb but the ridge is undulating and the lookout (about 1.5km to the left at the top) is worth a look. Trig station is to the right at the top.

Great run. Went up the trail and then onto the Lookout and then back to the trig and down the road. No views as we were up in the clouds.

While I had quite a bit of trouble figuring out where to go with this trail, in the end I am pretty sure I ran most of the trail in the guide plus some other wonderful single-trail and a bit of forestry road for good measure. All of the uphill single trail is runnable as it is designed for mtb's to ride up. I ventured further up the road at the start while exploring and found a nice unmarked trail that lead around the outside and down to the bottom... so all in all a fun afternoon in the heat.
