Park at the top of Beach street - plenty of parking. Take the wee track straight onto the beach and head left along the beach right until the end at the base of the Matanaka headland. Head off the beach and turn right up the gravel road.

Follow the road up until you reach the carpark (about 800m). There is a wee gate on the left fence line (well signposted). Follow the track through the bush and down until you reach the paddock with the old buildings. Take some time to check out the buildings as you can go inside.

Retrace your steps back out the same track and down the road. Cross over the lagoon mouth and head right on a track into the bush alongside the lagoon and then take first left so you end up at the back of the rugby club. Run through the rugby club grounds into the back of the campground and then through the campground onto beach street. Turn left and run the few hundred metres back to your car.

Historical buildings from Colonial settlement. Waikouaiti beach and Lagoon.

At the rugby club, there are public toilets.
