Park at the Karitane Estuary with toilets and playground. Head around the estuary to the wharf. From the wharf there is a track along Shelly Beach - follow this, then keep heading straight along the shoreline onto the pennisula.
There are few different tracks - keep staying left until you get to the Pou. Then head up the track. There are two short out and back tracks to good views and then come back to the main track and run along past the blowholes - watch young children!
Head along the main path then take a left so you can stay on trail rather than going down onto the road. There are a few trails down through the bush. Take the right for this one and it will pop out onto the road not far from Karitane beach. Run down the road, along the beach, take the second right turn (against a one way road) and another right and up over past the cemetery. The track comes back down to your starting spot.
An old pa site with lots of signboards detailing the Māori history of the area. Stunning views north to Waikouaiti Beach and Matanaka and south to Waitati.
