From Evansdale Glen follow the signs up Carey's Creek (you will get wet feet soon after the start).

About 2km in, the track divides. Keep left up Carey's Creek. At 4km there is a turn off up the hill signposted "Honeycomb Track". It gets steep here! Follow it up to Mountain Road. Turn right and about 500m along look for an unmarked track to the left. This is a firebreak which drops quite steeply down to the south branch of the Waikouaiti River.

Cross the river, enjoy the views and look for the River Track on the other side. Go along the river track about 700 and look for the sign "To Walkers Road". There's a bit of rope to help you down to the river again and look for the markers for the track on the other side. Up the steep Walkers Road firebreak and you will come out on Mountain Road again. Turn left and it's about 1.5km along to Rongomai Track (about 100m) after the top of Honeycomb. Head down Rongomai back to Carey's Creek and the carpark.

Some really nice ridges and bits of native bush on this route.

There is a small carpark at Evansdale Glen.

Moderate.

The first route down to the Waikouaiti River from Mountain Road is unmarked. It's about 500m along the road on the left but safest to use GPX. Watch out for the sign to Walker Road on the River Track.

Very patchy.

Long-sleeved thermal top, Seam-sealed waterproof jacket, Gloves, Beanie/thermal headwear, Whistle, First aid kit, Extra food for emergencies, Survival blanket, Cellphone, Map

Waikouaiti River is good for drinking. You cross it twice around the middle of the run.

Carey's Creek and Waikouaiti River can both go up in heavy rain.

It's on the way home about 500m out of the carpark. Check opening hours before you leave.
