Starting at the 45th Parallel marker, head North along the obvious 4wd lakeside track. Follow this along the lake into Pisa Moorings. Don't go over the arch bridge, but keep going left and up the jetty and into the area next to Moorings Function Centre. Head right along the road to the main entrance to the Pisa Moorings village.

Cross SH6 and head up Clarks Rd for 100m then take the gate on your left. Head up past the buildings on the 4WD track on to the top of the terrace. Once on the top, follow along the front edge of the terrace in a Southerly direction. Tag the first trig on the way past, and keep going until you reach the 45th Parallel track (you'll see a metal seat). Keep following the front edge past the 45th marker up on top, until you reach the second trig. Head down the fence line and you'll join back up with the main track, follow this to the bottom. At the bottom, take a left, follow the 4wd track back to SH6, then cross and follow the track back to the car.

Gold mining relics on climb up to Sugarloaf. Good views of Cromwell/Pisa Moorings area.

Very public, well used car park.

Easy.

Left at the arch bridge at the start of Pisa Moorings.

Generally good.

Thermal leggings, Long-sleeved thermal top, Windproof jacket, Whistle, First aid kit, Extra food for emergencies, Cellphone, Map

Water just off the track, located at the Lowburn Hall, lovely bore water.

Can be very windy, and miserable, but otherwise good all year round.

Lots of uneven ground and rocks to trip on!

Trail Reviews

A nice wee leg-stretcher if you're driving between Wanaka and Cromwell with an hour to spare. Lovely views in all directions. easy to add a bit of extra vert by including the 410 steps down the 45th Parallel Track and back up if you so wish!
