Description

Starting at the carpark, head up Coalpit road to the saddle. Hope over the stile and follow the Water Race track around the back of the hill. Follow this track for the next 3km or so, then it deviates off the water race and heads up the hill towards the ridge line. Route is easy to follow. Once on the ridge, follow the 4WD track back to the saddle and then back to the car.

Wild Explorers

I did it!
  • Access

Turn on to Coalpit Rd off of Gibbston Hwy, head up it until you come to the wee parking area by the gate.

Room to park at the start of the track, you could drive further up Coalpit road if you like, but you'd need a good 4WD to get up to the saddle. And you won't be able to claim your Wild Explorer Pts!

  • Staying Safe

    Easy.

Where the track deviates from the water race there are orange marker poles.

    Patchy.

Thermal leggings, Long-sleeved thermal top, Seam-sealed waterproof jacket, Gloves, Whistle, First aid kit, Extra food for emergencies, Cellphone, Map.

Some small creeks cross the water race track as well as some off the road.

Unpleasant in wind/rain, during winter high chance of snow around, which would stick around a while on the Water Race track.
