Starting at the carpark, head up Coalpit road to the saddle. Hope over the stile and follow the Water Race track around the back of the hill. Follow this track for the next 3km or so, then it deviates off the water race and heads up the hill towards the ridge line. Route is easy to follow. Once on the ridge, follow the 4WD track back to the saddle and then back to the car.

If you know of any public toilets near the trail start or on the route, please login and then let us know so we can update this section.

Room to park at the start of the track, you could drive further up Coalpit road if you like, but you'd need a good 4WD to get up to the saddle. And you won't be able to claim your Wild Explorer Pts!

Easy.

Where the track deviates from the water race there are orange marker poles.

Patchy.

Thermal leggings, Long-sleeved thermal top, Seam-sealed waterproof jacket, Gloves, Whistle, First aid kit, Extra food for emergencies, Cellphone, Map

Some small creeks cross the water race track as well as some off the road.

Unpleasant in wind/rain, during winter high chance of snow around, which would stick around a while on the Water Race track.

Trail Reviews

A ok wee bash if you're in the area. Mainly runnable incline with a good pub at the bottom. Would have been better if it wasn't wet, freezing, dark and in the cloud.

A pleasant test of the body without ever really raising the excitement. A bit too much 4wd for my liking and, being Spring, a lot of the upward trails were stream with snowmelt. Nice to tick off, but probably wouldn’t repeat.
