Description
There's two ways to get out near the historic Cape Campbell lighthouse. The GPX file takes you on the low tide route which sticks to the beach all the way out and back, and is best attempted at low tide. A more adventurous alternative to make this a nice loop is to take the marked trail over the coastal hills, which affords you some wonderful views of Cook Strait, Lake Grassmere, the North and South Islands and Mt Tapuae-o Uenuku in the Kaikoura inland mountains. This trail is well signposted and marked, initially up the 4WD farm track near the camp and then follows various ridgelines and fencelines out to near the lighthouse.
