This is mostly trail. Starting from Ohakune cemetery, there is a 1km paved road to Ratamaire Road. Mostly gravel road, but in pretty rough state half of the time (many parts are sand, mud, grass, making it much nicer to trail run). You'll encounter a few forest blocks, giving you some shade. Sometimes the gates are closed for livestock purpose but it is all public road. The last part close to Rangataua cemetery brings you through a very nice rural farm setting, with a better maintained gravel road. Turn around at the Rangataua cemetery sign at the top of the hill. If you turn around there and run back to Ohakune cemetery, the run will be almost exactly 15 km. Extremely nice rural farm road trail with likely no one in your way.

Views on the mountain are fantastic from a range of hill tops

None. Closest public toilets are in Ohakune.

You can choose to park at Ohakune cemetery, or at the junction with Ratamaire Rd. Other parks, e.g., Ohakune lakes reserve, are also close.
