Maunganui can be accessed on the trails Perhams Road Loop, Whareroa/Akatarawa Loop, Mount Titi Full Bush , Whararoa Farm Steps, The Big Wainui Loop, Mounting Maunganui, Orange Hut via Perhams and Western Hills brief trot from our trail directory.

Although Topomap shows no tracks to the peak of Maunganui, there is a well-established track up the western ridge from Maungakotukutuku Road. There are another couple of tracks down the northern ridges, and a track south to Mt Titi. The top of Maunganui is bare, with views in all directions. The last few hundred metres of ascent are very muddy.
