This is a great circuit that links up of the town's trail network. It can be accessed from anywhere in town - just head towards the coast and you will find it.

Starting from the Motueka Recreation Centre cross Old Wharf road and enter the Motueka Estaury Walkway and run South keeping the estaury on your left, passing through native estuary planting. The estaury is home to a flock of Royal Spoonbills.

Keep running until you hit Wharf road and turn left (east) onto the Great Taste Trail and run across the Estuary causeway. At the end the trail carries on North along the east shore of the Estuary until Old Wharf road where you turn right and run towards the sea. Here you pick up the Great Taste Trail again on Motueka Quay.

Now run North with the Sea on your right all the way to the Raumanukas Reserve Carpark where you turn around and run back South to Harbour Road. Turn right (West) onto Harbour Road and run to the end then onto Tudor street; then continue on to the New World Supermarket - just behind it you will find Thorps Bush. Enter this and run to the eastern end where you find a trail that takes you back South to the Recreation Centre.

This is a great overview of the sights of Motueka and you pass along the coastal fringe of the town. Keep an eye out for Royal Spoonbills and Kotuku.

There's plenty of parking at the REC Centre and Motueka's a pretty safe town.

Trail Reviews

Nice flat run taking in the main sites of Motueka. Compacted trails and well signposted so you can't really get lost.
