This track is well sign-posted so it is fairly impossible to get lost. The track can be very busy in the peak season over summer so I prefer to run it in the shoulder seasons or even on a clear, still, winter's day. Plenty of toilets en route. Cell coverage is intermittent but mostly reliable. You can catch the aquataxi to many other points in the park and run back to Marahau. From Awaroa it is about 35km, from Torrent Bay it is about 15km, from Anchorage it is about 12km. Many options - all great! A lot of the track is under cover of surrounding forest but there are some ridge top, exposed areas so pack sunscreen. Insect repellent could be useful if you plan to spend a lot of time sitting on the beaches enjoying the view!

Stunning native bush, birdsong, beaches and coastal vistas. Great day out!

Drive to Marahau and park your car there. Catch the aquataxi (http://aquataxi.co.nz/bookings) to Onetahuti Beach (about 45 mins) and run back to Marahau.

Easy.

Always follow the signs to Marahau.

Patchy.

Windproof jacket, Extra food for emergencies, Cellphone.

Potable water at frequent intervals along the track. Look for it wherever there are toilets.

Can be muddy after rain. Could be wasps in summer - carry epipen if required.

Trail Reviews

I did this run to replace the postponed Abel Tasman Classic. Blessed with beautiful sunny weather. Great run and a bit of a workout on the legs!

I did this as part of Wainui bay to Marahau long run. Great day, but can get very hot and very busy in summer. Plenty of water at the huts as you go along. My preference is the northern half of the AbelTasman Park, just less busy people. I'll do this again sometime :)

N.b. my last review wouldn't let me select 5 stars. Definitely a 5 star run

I've done this twice. Fantastic run with great scenery. 1st time we got the water taxi in and ran back to marahau and the foot traffic was insane, especially the last few km into marahau.2nd time round we left marahau just after 7am and didnt see a soul for 15km, much more enjoyable and easy enough to get the water taxi back so would recommend this option in summer
