Dunedin has no shortage of hills, bush tracks and rugged coastal trails, often just minutes from the city.
Dunedin is a pretty good place to be a trail runner. It's surrounded by hills, with bush tracks, steep climbs and coastal trails all within easy reach of the city.
The Town Belt and Signal Hill are handy for shorter runs without having to go far, while Flagstaff, Mount Cargill and the Silver Peaks offer longer outings with plenty of climbing. Head out towards the Otago Peninsula and there's a different mix of coastal tracks, farmland and exposed ridgelines.
It's not always the warmest or driest place to run, and the hills can be relentless, but there's a lot of variety packed into a relatively small area.
