ED
Definitely a long pants sort of day. Lots of bush lawyer and scrachy grasses.
Similar to Rob I departed from N-S - near a little camp spot, crossed the small stream, headed up the spur to Puketutu hut and beyond. There is very faint evidence of the old track (trees a little shorter, ground a little warn) only half a dozen old markers. GPX file and topo map where often refered to. Expected slow travel.
March 1
I tackled it coming up from the southern ridge (leaving the N-S Track a couple of kilometres north from the Wairere Falls junction). Whilst there used to be a track across this ridge through to Kauritatahi Hut, this is now long gone (although I did still see a small handful of old orange track markers)
It's now a combination of some deer trail and some dense bush bashing and crawling, and took me about 90+ minutes to cover the 3-3.5km.
