Description
The trail start is opposite the carpark in Patukirikiri Reserve. It has a DOC signpost for Kauri Block Walk. Follow a vehicle track between houses for a hundred meters and then the single track starts with a climb. Near the top is a junction and turn right to head up to the viewpoint for a look.
Back at the main trail turn right. You now start heading downhill before another short climb. The views of MacGregor Bay are beautiful. After another downhill there is a junction where you turn right, sign for Harray Walk Track. Not long after there is another junction and turn left to keep on Harray Track. There is another junction only marked by a blue arrow. Continue straight here.
The trail will drop down to a road and you continue straight up the road and then right at the Harray Track sign. At the top of the steps is another junction with a blue arrow. Turn left and the trail climbs up and down with lots of steps. The trail will reach a fence. Go around the end of the fence and follow the trail along the fence.
From here the trail changes from wide gravel to more technical, narrower clay. You will drop down to a swamp which has nice boardwalk then up a steep hill before the final drop to the stream. Cross the stream and a hundred meters on is the road.
If you are tired you can return to town via the road. If not, turn around and head back the way you came. The only change is at the top of the last steps turn left at the junction following the blue triangle. This will cut out the short road section. At the next junction it is left again and you are back on the main trail which you follow back to the track start.
