Many tracks in Northland are expecting work/uprgrades to help prevent the spread of kauri dieback disease. The track is open to the 4.3km junction/ turnaround point and here is a good place to check track status

Description

An easy undulating out & back run amongst regenerating native bush, turning around at the junction/crossroads of 2 much tougher options. You could either bear right to carry on along the TA trail onwards to Whananaki, or head further down & up & down etc along more technical terrain to the Puriri track & other abounding options at Mimiwhangata.

  • Staying Safe

    Easy.

    Very patchy.

Whistle, First aid kit, Extra food for emergencies, Cellphone, Map.

BYO! I wouldn't risk topping up from the creek, due to DOC's predator pest control poisoning operations.

    Can get slippery after rain

Slippery clay & sneaky tree roots!

    Hikurangi Home Cookery
    45 King St, Hikurangi
Great pies & The Best Walnut Chelsea buns! Nice to grab something economical to takeaway & enjoy scoffing down while taking in the scenery at Waro Lake Reserve which is also a nice place for a warmup or warmdown jaunt . Sadly, the Hika bakery is shut on Sundays!

    Miner's Rest Cafe
    49 King St, Hikurangi
