Starting at the northern end of Te Hangaruru trail (Pokaka Road), you will head north for a few hundred metres before heading under a train bridge then begin your journey south to Ohakune. Te Hangaruru Trail is approx 6km of easy running, with some awesome bridges. At 6km you will come onto Matapuna Road which is a mix of gravel and paved. Follow this until you reach the Old Coach Road trail head. This is a popular mountain biking trail so keep your wits about you.
Make sure at the 17.5km mark to make the detour to the Hapuawhenua Viaduct (AJ Hackett's original bungee jump spot!). At 21k you will come out at the Marshalls Road carpark. From here follow the trail on the side of the road the last few km back to the Powderkeg restaurant and bar - treat yourself!
Hapuawhenua Viaduct
Portaloos 1km in to the Old Coach Road.
There's not much parking at the Pokaka Road trailhead. This is a point to point route, so your best bet is to get dropped off by someone. TCB Ohakune do shuttles most days.
