Description

Ranui Farm is a working farm with open days. Track days are Saturday and Sundays 9am to 5pm. There is a $5 cost and a honesty box on their fence. The first Sunday of the month is a Funday Sunday so check first if you don't want to end up paying more (though might be a great day out for the family while you go running)! Details on their webpage http://ranuifarmpark.co.nz/.

This route I ran started at the gate with the house and facilities behind you (you should see a map of the park there so you can get an idea of where you are going). Going right up the hill you can follow the track past a gate and then continue left and then straight for 600m (towards a forest) until you get to ramp over a fence. Go left here and continue to follow this main track up and down the hill and then back up through the forest.

Once you exit the forest you will continue to climb for a while and the track will eventually start doubling back up the hill towards the fence line you crossed before entering to forest. At the highest point I returned around and ran back the way I came. However, upon crossing over the ramp over the fence once again I went to my right cutting around the hill and then re-joining a track that heads down the hill towards a pond. This track will go to the right and weave its way through the trees. Once you exit of those trees you will run around the pond and then follow the track up the hill and over back to the start again.

You could quite easily do this as a loop instead and repeat the loops several times. A loop will be about 5.5km.

If you attend Funday Sunday there is a much bigger loop of 10kms (they open some farm gates so you can access more of the farm) which is easy to repeat for a great 20km training run with some good elevation and a few techinical bits.
