A pleasant urban trail for the 'mild things'. The rule is simple: turn right at every intersection; whenever you hit bollards, stairs or concrete, turn back (except for crossing Carmichael Road - you're allowed to do this to access the boardwalk on the other side). This approach will send you down the odd frivolous dead end, but it's a fun way to cover Gordon Carmichael Reserve, and you'll eventually end up back where you started.

The official starting point is on the path to the left of the playground on Carmichael Road. But really, you can start anywhere, and no matter where you enter the reserve, you'll complete the loop so long as you keep turning right. (There's one tiny hill at the northwest end where the rule needs to be fudged slightly; just enjoy that little hill loop then head back the way you came.)

The reserve is mostly flat apart from a solid climb towards the Balmedie Ridge access way.

If you're feeling contrary you can run the whole thing turning left instead of right. That works too. 😎

Gordon Carmichael Reserve is a stormwater reserve with a network of pleasant walking/cycling paths. Lots of ducks etc - dogs must be on a leash.

Public toilets at the playground.

Parking at the playground and near most access ways around the reserve.

No

Easy.

Trust the process and keep turning right. You'll find your way back to the start eventually. Whenever you hit a dead end, go back the way you came. If you take a wrong turn, no worries, it's not a place to get lost in.

Generally good.

Cellphone, Map

None.

Some paths prone to flooding after heavy rain, but nothing you can't splash through.

Duck poo!

Do you have a suggestion on where to go afterwards for the best coffee / cake / breakfast / brunch / beer?
