Te Whare Okioki was built in 2019 by the Kaimai Ridgeway Trust hunting and tramping volunteers who continue to maintain it for the benefit of all. Play your part - pay your hut fees and keep the hut and surrounding area clean, tidy and free of rubbish.
Te Whare Okioki can be translated as “The Resting Place”. We appreciate the ongoing support of Ngāti Hinerangi throughout the establishment and future of the hut.
The hut is on the site of the previous Ngamuwahine clearing and shelter on the North South Track one hour south of the Te Tuhi / Ngamarama / North South track junction.
There is space to camp outside of the hut. If you camp, Kaimai Ridgeway Trust would appreciate a donation towards their volunteer efforts:
Firewood is only provided during winter months, from April to October.
