Start from Franz Josef Village and head south towards Fox Glacier, there's a separate pedestrian section to cross the Waiho River Bridge. Directly after turn sharp right onto a stop bank. Halfway along the stop bank follow the track marker pegs off the stop bank, across a creek and onto the next section of stop bank. At the end you of the stop bank you see a sign for Canavans Knob walk (1.6km - 40 min return) . Follow the pleasant wide trail winding its way up around the knob to a view point with pretty mountain scenery. Back down and back to the village the same way.
This trail includes the peak Canavans Knob.
