Start at the information board at the end of the carpark. Approx 300m up the stream there is a sign on the left for the Ridge Track. Follow this all the way up to the lookout, ignoring the lefthand turnoff just prior to the lookout.

After enjoying the view continue down towards the streambed, until you get to another sign pointing you upstream towards the Pinnacles. Continue as far up through the Pinnacles as you like then return via the stream and a small section of bush track located at your last turnoff.

Some of the best earth pillar formations in New Zealand.

Lord of The Rings: The Return of the King contained scenes filmed here. Stop to look for shell fossils along the way.

Approx 40 minutes drive from Martinborough. There is a carpark at the campground. No public transport available.

Easy.

When coming back down the stream bed there isn't always a clear path. If you keep making your way down you should be fine.

Patchy.

Windproof jacket, Whistle, First aid kit, Extra food for emergencies, Cellphone, Map

Water available at campsite but may need treating.

Avoid during heavy rain as the stream levels may rise. The Ridge Track may be muddy and slippery when wet.

The area is prone to rock fall. Take care particularly at the top of the track at the Pinnacles.
