A great loop + out & back combo if you find yourself in Tapawera with some time to spare time - for example after riding the Great Taste Trail. The track is marked with DOC markers all the way. It starts off Rata Ave and after going through a couple of gates you can decide to head up the hill clockwise or anticlockwise. Halfway through there is the option to add on the out & back climb to a lookout point which gives nice views over Tapawera and further to Kahurangi National Park. Retrace your steps down the hill and join the loop in the opposite direction you came up.

Great wee trail… perfect leg stretcher after finishing Heaphy yesterday. A bit of a grind to the top but on the way down you can let loose… soft underfoot means give it heaps.
