A soft runnable trail through the shaded forest with some nice easy vert. This is a mixed use mountain cycle track. Encounters are infrequent but if you are unlucky they are likely going fast!

Start at the Lower Rameka carpark and follow the signposted "Rameka Track" turning right across the Rameka Creek. Unless its flooded, you should be able to cross the ford with dry feet (otherwise consider running in reverse to keep feet dry until the end).

Follow the trail along the fence line then zigzag up through the forest. Turn left at the intersection (the high point of the trail) and follow the "Great Expectations" trail back down into the valley. Finally, cross the Rameka Creek Bridge and return alongside the gravel road, occasionally joining it for a few hundred metres so watch out for sporadic traffic.

Congratulations - you've earned a post run coffee in the Wholemeal Cafe or a swim at Pōhara Beach!

Plenty of parking, fairly safe but take valuables with you just in case.

Easy.

Generally good.

Long-sleeved thermal top, Gloves, Beanie/thermal headwear, Whistle, First aid kit, Extra food for emergencies, Cellphone, Map.

Rameka Creek should be okay to drink but do this at your own risk.

It's a good idea to avoid after heavy rainfall.

This is a mixed use mountain cycle track. Encounters are infrequent but if you are unlucky they are likely going fast! Also, the return leg shares a few hundred metres on the main (gravel) road so be aware of any downhill traffic.

Trail Reviews

Loved this very runnable trail. Ran it in reverse to avoid the wet feet start but managed to miss the turnoff down at the forks as the trails were mostly signed for the opposite direction. Heard kaka, saw a deer and a tui.

Endlessly runnable! Great views. Plenty of shade on a warm afternoon too.

Love this run! Good amount of climbing but still runnable. Lovely forest running! Good views along the valley
