Heading towards Clyde from the car park you follow the 150th Anniversary Track for approx 3km until you cross over the Fraser River. Take a left on the grassy track at the DOC sign and then follow the orange poles. Once out of the trees, you have a choice of directions to do the loop. Heading left you follow the poles up through the tailings first meandering through the old relics and piles of rubble. You'll eventually reach the 4WD track which is grassy and overgrown, expect to get wet if its damp. You reach back the original junction, follow back the tracks back to the car park.

Old mining relics

Car parking is located off Earnscleugh Road, about 300m from the main road turn off. Plenty of parking available, overlooked by houses so is pretty safe.

Windy and chilly, but nothing too serious. Occasionally a bit of snow if you're super lucky.

Plenty of rocks for you to roll an ankle in the tailings.

Great coffee, great service. Curried egg and kumara salad is brilliant too!

Trail Reviews

The river trail was lovely but avoid running around the tailings on a hot day as it’s like a desert. Parts of the trail were very overgrown and I lost the markers a few times.

Beautiful start by the river - loved it. The track was quite popular with runners, walkers & plenty of cyclists, so would advise leaving your headphones at home so you can hear the cyclists as they come through. Suspect i got a bit off track in the tailings as i clocked this at 12.1km & my Strava map looked a little bit different to the directory map, i cant remember where i would have made a wrong turn, i suspect i just did more of an outer loop.
