Cross the river wherever you feel most comfortable and head to the more gentle spur south of the gully. There is a small clearing around 100m or so to the left of an obvious rock outcrop. Take the left side of the clearing where the scrub is less dense. From here head to the high point (1123 on the topo map). After the saddle follow the fence line to the corner. (You can cross the fence anytime but it is easiest at the corner as it has fallen down there.)

Keep heading up to the ridge. It's easy going but staying closer to the fence line will mean slightly lower scrub. At the ridge head out to the right to the summit of Mount Muntz.

After taking in the views continue past point 1290 on the topo map, then take the next spur down. There is a rocky bit here on the knoll but it's easy to negotiate. The ridge is a long sweet ridge heading past the only copse of trees on the circuit, then over point 1122 on the topo map. A bit further along on a slightly steeper bit (still not steep - just steeper than the rest) the scrub is a bit higher and thicker. Stay in the middle of the spur for an easy way through. Continue down the spur to the valley floor. Keep more to the left and hug the hill on the left and as you exit onto flats of the Clarence you will find a well worn animal trail that will take you back to where you will exit over to your river crossing.

This trail includes the peak Mount Muntz.
