Start at Te Rerenga Track and follow the one-way direction which will take you through some reasonably barren new plantings.

Just after 1.3km you arrive at the Te Rerenga Tunnel. A torch is handy but not absolutely necessary as you can slowly walk through the tunnel making sure to plant your feet correctly.

Continue to Petersons Camp at which point turn hard right, going through wooden bollards and then up a short steep gravel access track.

When you reach Lucitaica Track turn left. Cross Te Ara Raho Road and look to the left where you'll pick up Sequoia Track which runs parallel to the road.

Turn left when you reach Tauranga Boys College Trail and follow this to the end turning right onto Buffalo Girl.

Buffalo Girl will take you past Lost Tank and spit you out at the Mountain Bike Hub carpark. Cross on the diagonal and pick up Keruru Track.

This will do a loop so keep bearing left until once again you get spat out at the carpark.

Look out on your left for the Equestrian Link which you follow until you reach the Equestrian Hub (ignore a number of sign-posted turnoffs for other trails).

On the other side of the road pick up Lucitaica Trail, eventually turning left onto the Access Track which takes you down to Petersons Camp again.

Keep running right along what is the other part of Te Rerenga Trail until you end up back at the car park where you began.

Cool tunnel and ravines.

Lots of parking for 20+ cars in the carpark.

Moderate.

The Equestrian Link was the only bit I had a wee bit of trouble, so when running this piece look at the wooden markers and put your back facing the name of the trail and head in that direction. Either that, or download the GPX.

Non-existent.

Whistle, First aid kit, Extra food for emergencies, Cellphone, Map, Headtorch and spare batteries

Bring your own.
