Start from the Karangahake gorge car park. Cross the bridge and head up the trail to the right - is signposted for the mountain summit.

The route climbs steeply, with a viewpoint midway. The trail is rough in places, e.g. bit of scrambling required over streams and up to the summit.

The route down is slightly more flowing. There's markers along the way that point to the summit or back down towards the gorge/Dickey Flat on the way down.

Great view from the top across the Kaimais. Some caves on the way down.

Good parking and toilets.

Trail Reviews

Trail was in great condition considering all the rain we'd been having. Suggested times are nice and generous as I tacked on the summit and still managed to complete under expected time. Very enjoyable running.

Love this gnarly run. A honest climb and great downhill. You can also start and finish from Dickey Flat to make it longer but you will need a head torch.
