Description
This is largely a straightforward in and out trail with some sections of lovely running single-trail, however at the top end the trail gets less clear where many people have explored the area around the rocky terrain.
This is worth doing as there is some amazing terrain.
Care needs to be taken if climbing on the rocks but overall it's a great place to explore.

Features of interest
At the top of the run is where in the 1929 Murchison Earthquake, half of the large hill at the end of the valley collapsed and fell into the valley. The photos don't do it justice, but when you are there you get a feel for the magnitude.

Head over the Matakitaki River Bridge right next to Murchison heading towards Westport, just over the bridge tak the turn to the left and head down the road for 6 kilometres. The road becomes narrow gravel road early on so take it slow as the road does have regular traffic.
There is a carpark right over the road from the Trailhead.

Staying Safe
Easy.
Early on you turn right over the stream on a clear natural causeway.
Non-existent.
Long-sleeved thermal top, Seam-sealed waterproof jacket, Gloves, Beanie/thermal headwear, Whistle, First aid kit, Extra food for emergencies, Survival bag, Cellphone, Map.
Stream next to you pretty much the whole way up and back.
There were signs that this could become pretty muddy in winter.
Take care around the rocky area at the top.
